 SECTIONING UNFOLDS SAHS HISTORY
Builder Lighstream on 06/20/2008 at 6:52 pm Uhr

At last the figure did not end myth for the first year class of San Alfonso High School when Fr. Francis Balacuit had approved this day (June 20) the sectioning of this class lobbied by the administration and faculty.

Such interest to split the class had called the attention of the school community when the first year enrolment had reached 71 mark this week which indeed a very big class to be handled.

It will be recalled that the school has been consistent in maintaining 50+ number of students per year level despite the presence of the four national high schools in the municapility.

Mr. Rodolfo M. Pepe had presented to the Vicariate's administration last week the enrolment status of the school where said grant was given to the school as a result of the follow-up measure employed personally by him.

Prior to this, the school director Fr. William Billag Jr had informed the faculty of the greater possibility of sectioning when he learned from same group the disadvantage of confining this figure into one class.

According to him, sectioning is of great advantage yet there seemed disadvantage in the budgetary requirements as to run regular class to be managed by a new teacher.

But despite the believed hindrances, such request for sectioning came to reality.

FIRST YEAR SECTIONING STILL HOPEFUL
Builder Lightstream on 06/12/2008 at 11:59 am Uhr

SABANGAN, MT. PROVINCE - The school’s first year class is still hopeful to get enough figure for this school year 2008-2009 to become two sections with its unofficial registered enrollees at 71 as of press time.

Mr.Rodolfo M.Pepe JR,.the school principal revealed that such issue was brought to the vicariate’s superintendent office about the possible class sectioning but to no avail because the figure remained myth to support a regular teacher’s salary and all other benefits.

“The 71 students in class is really that big but it would be too small for two sections,”said Fr.Francis Balacuit, the vicariate school’s superintendent. An ideal member of student in a class to support a regular teacher is around 4o-45.In such case, there seem to have deficit when a class of 71 would split each with 35 and 36 students.

Meanwhile, the SAHS enrollment figure at hand reached 214 mark, the highest recorded official june enrollment throughout the school’s history since it’s foundation on June 1959.The distribution of the figure was as follows: First year-71, Second year-57, third year-40, and fourth year 47.

CHURCH EMPOWERS YOUTH THROUGH PROGRAMS
Lesio Mhar P. Gao-ay on 07/28/2008 at 12:54pm (UTC)
SABANGAN, Mt. Province - An effort to involve the young in the Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) thrust of the church was initiated successfully by the youth ministry of Sabangan Catholic Mission which was held last June 15 at Saint Joseph Seminar Hall here.

This was in response to the foregoing programs of the vicariate’s youth ministry in realizing resources to engage the young in the varied church activities which were organized as early as April this year by Baltazar Robles, one of the Youth Ministry Staffs base in Teng-ab, Bontoc.

Kurt Karyl Pilacan, one of the resource speakers and a fourth year student of San Alfonso High School, Sabangan disclosed that a total of 32 elementary pupils and high school students attended the orientation that talked about the functions of the YEAST ministries in the BEC chart.

It will be recalled that in the BEC scheme of the Church, YEAST refers to the youth, education, altar, social services, and temporalities ministries as the Church pushes concrete realization of the communitarian model by the Second Vatican Council. BECs are regarded as a new way of being church – the Church as the grassroots and the people participate actively in the priestly and prophetic mission.

Such program was intended and designed for grade 6 and high school levels to assume the role of youth in the YEAST ministry in light with the social teachings of the church.

“First and foremost, the orientation we had last Sunday is an attempt to involve the youth in the various Church activities. In this way, I believe that their potentials and interests are maximized fruitfully,” Kurt Pilacan said.

“It is the eagerness of the participants that drives us to go along with the plans as we are looking into follow-up activities that will soon take in the Sunday meetings as scheduled.”

Speakers of the said activity include Kurt Karyl Pilacan, Arius Mamanteo, Aiza Boguilis, and Arnoldyn Sally all from San Alfonso High School; Hannah Pacyado, and Roberto Pangpangdeo from Sabangan National High School.

Next week’s follow up activities will include team building seminar which will be facilitated by same group of student leaders.
