“Gawis nan Kasin Suma-a!” was the cry of all alumni in the grand celebration and alumni homecoming on December 27-28, 2009 that was held at San Alfonso High School Grounds. “Passages of the decades, the quest for excellence continues” is the theme of the Golden Jubilee of the School which was launched on July 2008.

The two-day celebration was started with the Holy Mass presided by the School Rector Rev. Fr. William D. Bilag, Jr. together with Alumni Priest Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Ofo-ob and visiting priest Rev. Fr. Graziano Calci. It is during this mass where Fr. Ofo-ob cried to the Alumni to share back to San Alfonso the gratitude of being Alumni of the Institution.

“Let us also ask ourselves on what can we give back to the School. Looking at its present status, it does not show that it produced numerous professionals,” Fr. Ofo-ob said.

A social program was held after the grand parade participated by more than a hundred of Alumni from different batches since 1959. Awards of appreciation and recognition were presented to the pioneer teachers, pioneer students, first graduates, previous teachers who served not less than five years in the School, and alumni who have received local or national achievement and recognition awards. The coronation of Mr. and Ms. Alumni was held in the evening.

Mr. Jaime Paredes is recognized as the pioneer teacher of the school in 1959. Mr. Jupiter Dominguez was also recognized for winning the 2006 Search for the Outstanding Mayor of the Philippines. Aside from the recognized in December 27, the School accepts that more people are needed to be appreciated, which, will be looked upon by the Committee on Awards headed by Mr. Rodolfo M. Pepe, Jr. and can be given in the future activities of the School like the Schools of Living Tradition Convention and on the Commencement Exercises.

Mr. Dalmacio Padsoyan, a pioneer graduate and also a former teacher of the School graced the second day program as the keynote speaker. Here, he challenged both teachers and students to continuously aim for excellence in any field or activity they are in. Also, together with the alumni present, they reminisced the past of laughter and naughtiness they shared.

The event was ended by an exit conference and farewell dinner of all the working committees.
