School population increases despite fewer freshmen enrollees
Roselle B. Cacap on 11/18/2010 at 3:28am (UTC) | | Compared to last school year’s population of 233, this year’s enrolment reached 244, an increase of 4.29%. This is despite the lower enrollment of first year students which is 57 compared to last year’s 68 enrollees.
“The last batch to graduate are only fourty-four, which may explain why we still have an increase in population,” explains Mr. Rodolfo M. Pepe, Jr., school principal. “If there are more students who come in the school than those leaving, we can maintain a continuously increasing population.”
The rest of the school enrollments are the following: 66 second years, 74 third years and 47 fourth years. There were no new transferees for the third year and fourth year class.
Since the allotted ESC slots for the school is equal to the number of promoted second years who are grantees, all of the fifty-eight first year students are beneficiary of the ESC.

PTCA donates curtains; students reminded anew
wwffredwayne1982 on 09/01/2009 at 11:24pm (UTC) | | In extending more support for a better learning environment for their children, the Parent-Teachers-Community Association of the School have come up with the project to donate new curtains for all the rooms in the School. Fifty pieces of newly purchased window curtains were generously turned-over by PTCA officers to the principal in the presence of the student body on August 28, 2009.
According to Mrs. Carolina Astudillo, the incumbent PTCA president, they understand the agony of discomfort felt by the students because of the direct sunlight that enters the room during daytime. She believes that this can result to poor performance and lesser concentration of their children during classes. Even those adults experience this during PTCA or special meetings held in the School. This prompted them, incumbent and former officers, to convene and agreed of using the remaining available funds of the Association from year 2003.
Mrs. Proserpina Pacyado, former PTCA president, on the other hand explained to the students the counterpart that they can do to show appreciation to the effort of their parents. “Aside from doing your studies well by avoiding unnecessary troubles in school, we urge and oblige you to always take good care of these curtains. Our curtains should not last for just a year but should be enjoyed by your younger sisters and brothers in the next years to come.”
The parent-representatives also reminded the students of the sacrifices they are undertaking to only provide their needs necessary in their schooling. They further pleaded that their children must not take their generosity and sacrifices for granted by not attending their studies seriously.
In behalf of his constituents, SSS Alvin Cosape didn’t miss the chance to say words of gratitude to the parents present.
Other PTCA officers and members who led the turn-over were Mrs. Cacap, Mrs. Gut-omen, and Mrs. Juliet Palicos.

wwffredwayne1982 on 09/01/2009 at 11:23pm (UTC) | | The nature is eyeing the youth for its salvation!
More than fifty members of the Explorers Guild marched to Kapangdanan mountain to plant 150 stems of different seedlings last August 23, 2009. This is in support to the Municipality’s program on reforestation and preservation of nature.
According to Mrs. Ezel B. Piclet, adviser of the Organization, this activity should be an avenue for the students to appreciate why the nature should be preserved. “If they experienced to be with nature and contributed something for its preservation, their plea for its protection would not merely an intellectual outburst but also emotional.”
The seedlings were hauled by some officers from Napua nursery on August 21 after which it was kept at the Losad Barangay Hall. It is here where the seedlings were collected by the tree planting participants on Sunday after the mass, marched towards Kapangdanan where they planted until 1:00 PM.
“We are planning to visit the trees next year when we will have our Eco-Walk,” said Mrs. Piclet.

80 BEC leaders join parish tongtongan
wwffredwayne1982 on 07/26/2009 at 5:23am (UTC) | | PINGAD, Sabangan – More than 80 church lay leaders from the different Basic Ecclesial Community of Sabangan and Gonogon, Bontoc join the Parish Tongtongan that was held in Saint Mary of Purification, Pingad, Sabangan on July 18, 2009. The theme of the tongtongan is “The Role of BEC in Community Building.”
According to Ireneo Pilacan, president of Sabangan Mission Pastoral Council, the Tongtongan is in preparation for the bigger Vicariate Tongtongan to be held in Teng-ab BOntoc on August 6-8, 2009. The agenda for the parish tongtongan was the Review of SMPC Constitution and By-Laws and Possible Amendments, Partial Assessment of BEC Action Plans, Assessment of BEC Organizational Structure, and the Revival of Inactive BEC’s of Data and Upper Tambingan.
Parish priest Fr. William Bilag, Jr. shared a few points about the theme. He said that the BEC is the new way of being a church. It is a church wherein the leaders are not merely the ordained ministers but also trained lay ministers. The BEC is a community of believers in the grassroot community who express their faith through common worship, who discern in their daily living the Christian faith, and plan and act as a community on common decisions.
A significant and major change after the parish tongtongan was the ratification of the amended or revised SMPC constitution and by-laws which was merely based on the Todey BEC CBL. The former six clusters were also trimmed down into five wherein cluster 1 and two will be composed of the BECs in lower Sabangan, cluster 3 and 4 will be Upper Sabangan, and cluster 5 will accommodate all Mandated Organization like Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, Couples for Christ, Apostaladas ti Kararag, Catholic Womes League, Squires and Squirettes, and San Alfonso High School Spirited Students Society.
The parish tongtongan also starts designing program for the revival of the Data and Upper Tambingan which will involve all BECs and Mandated Organizations. Schedules of visiting will still be determined after the ocular visitation scheduled by the SMPC on August 2 and 9 for Data and Upper Tambingan, respectively.
