Recollection-Seminars remind teachers of role in education
Verlyn D. Ayodoc on 06/26/2012 at 2:31am (UTC)
To jog the memory of the Catholic teachers in the Vicariate of Bontoc-Lagawe on their role in the formation of the young and the society, two separate recollection-seminars were conducted for Vicariate Teachers on June 16-17, 2011 and on January 7, 2012 both held in Teng-ab Pastoral Center, Bontoc, Mountain Province.
“Re-imaging the Teachers in the 21st Century” is the theme of the first recollection seminar which was facilitated by Fr. Felix Bay-ong. Reflections were centered on Spirituality. The topic is subdivided into three, Spirituality of Communion, of Sexuality and of the Paschal Mystery.
Fr. Bay-ong shared that while we are meant to attain the spirituality of perfection, we are limited by our earthen vessel. No matter how strong our spirituality is, it is limited by our body and other personal characteristics as human. It is then in accepting these weaknesses, perfection is attained.
He also said that while the body is vulnerable of imperfection brought about by sin, anger, ego, jealousy and pride among others, this same weak body can be a vessel of grace, i.e., making others happy while extending the grace of God we received to others. There is no such thing as forgive and forget, so when we follow Jesus’ example, we have to be wounded healers too. While we may continue to be hurt, we are extending forgiveness, love and grace to others.
As educators, teachers therefore should be a vessel of grace and love amidst their weakness. To be effective is to be perfect spiritually so that they can be able to love all students.
The second recollection was facilitated by Fr. John Habawel and was attended by catholic teachers of Mountain Province district only. It focused still on spirituality and the four ways to attain it: Via negative, via positive, via transformative, and via creative.
Via negative teaches that everything in this world falls short of the glory and perfection of God. To attain therefore the spirituality of perfection is to separating our self from material things because clinging to these separates us from God. Via Positiva on the other hand sees good in everything in the surrounding. It teaches that in every simple thing we see, we can praise God and use them to keep us spiritually awake. Together with the other two, transformative and creative, the lecture suggests that teachers should be a vessel of change through spiritual perfections, and becoming instruments to transform the students into the better through different creative ways.
After the seminar was a district meeting and planning for the Schools of Living Tradition Convention to be held in Sabangan.

Jendy Jane N. Dominguez on 06/26/2012 at 2:30am (UTC)
Outwitting their nearest rival by 17 points with their 631, Unit 2 or the Black Snipers retains their championship crown after the three days Intramurals on October 26 – 28, 2011 with the theme “Building Unity and Strength through Camaraderie in Sports.” Unit 1 White Jumpers follows closely with its 614 points and Unit 3 Blue Jaguars with 612 points.
White Jumpers accumulated more Gold Medals with their 20 gold medals followed by Blue Jaguars’ 19 and Black Snipers 17. However, most silver medals were secured by Unit 2 with their 26 silvers compared to 15 silvers of both Unit 1 and 3. This gave the champions more points than their competitors that made them again the champion in this annual sports and literary competitions.
Unit 1 dominated the Indoor and Outdoor Games while Unit 3 made the better performances in the literary-musical competitions including the cheering competitions. Unit 2 in return silently occupied most of the 2nd places if failed to be winner in the different events.
“We did our best and showed what teamwork really is,” exclaimed Rachelle T. Balatao, Black Sniper Unit Leader. “We could have not won without the participation and determination of all my team mates.”
According to Louie Nor Calag, the leader of Blue Jaguars, they accept their lost. “We had so much fun especially for me that my crushes were all there and played till their last sweat,” he added with tantalizing eyes.
“All units did their very best to compete, but as we all know in every competition there is only one victorious. New friends and temporary enemies were even made but in the end we all learned about the true meaning of trust, sportsmanship, unity and strength all to boost friendship among us,” the unit leaders said.

Sabangan welcomes NYC National Pilgrimage
Luvdeveca B. Angeles on 06/26/2012 at 2:26am (UTC)
“The youth of a nation are the trustees of posterity,” Benjamin Disraeli
Gathered as one, all the youth of Sabangan both from Upper and Lower came together to meet and join the celebration of the National Youth Cross National Pilgrimage on its 25th Anniversary on September 9, 2011 at the St. Joseph Church, Poblacion, Sabangan. On the journey of the Cross, the NYC of the Philippines goes on a pilgrimage throughout the Country in celebration of the CBCP Year of the Youth and fortunately, the NYC made a stopover in Sabangan to send out a message of hope to the youth and manifest the salvific love of Christ.
The SAHS family together with the community welcomed the NYC warm-heartedly by encountering the Cross in Kaaligan and joins the parade going down to the school ground where the turn over ceremony was done. A mass followed afterwards with Fr. Sammy Maximo and Rev. Robert Dulnuan as celebrants. Rev. Dulnuan said that the cross represents the love of Jesus to His people in which through it He sacrificed Himself to save us.
As a part of the veneration of the Cross, the holy rosary was prayed and some presentations were done by the students. Before the day ends, the journey of the cross continued to go throughout the other places it was scheduled to send the message of hope, salvific love of our Savior Jesus.

SAHS family attends recollections
Luvdeveca B. Angeles on 06/26/2012 at 2:26am (UTC)
Let the children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 19: 13-15)
The entire SAHS family or the whole of SAHS students were blessed to join recollections that were usually offered only to the graduating class. The said activities were held at the Seminar Hall of St. Joseph, Sabangan on November 22-25, 2011.
Fr. Mario Morales or Fr. Ayong together with Bro. Ryan and Bro. Randolph, all hail from Pangasinan facilitated the recollections. They explained that recollections mean to gather again or go back from where we had begun. To remember the memories of the past, to recall our weaknesses, our failures, our goodness and praise the Creator for He deserves praise and thanks. They also taught that the journey in life starts at birth and ends in the Father’s house in heaven. Fr. Ayong emphasized that the important part of every journey is “going back.”
“Be not afraid on your journey in life. Why? Because the Holy Trinity is with us, God is always with us. The Blessed Virgin Mary is with us,” said Fr. Ayong.
The second recollection for the graduating class was held in Teng-ab, Bontoc on March 14, 2012 with Superintendent of Baguio-Benguet Diocesan School Fr. Rolly Buyagan and San Jose High School – La Trinidad Guidance Counselor Ms. Cindy Montes as the facilitators.
The theme was Understanding and Valuing My Freedom wherein the highlight of the activity was drawing with closed eyes and open eyes. From the said activity, the seniors learned that if they do not have sense of vision, it is very difficult for them to live freely. They do not have any clear direction in life. Having limited movement, they are not able to enjoy life, see the beauty of the world and experience the goodness of persons thus comes the feeling of loneliness. Comparing to the drawing with open eyes, they learned that they are free to move, to express the goodness of persons, free to see and enjoy the beauty of the world and experience the graces of being in a safe ground and thus there is joy in living.
True freedom is “the more I do what is good, the freer I am.” Doing what is against good is not freedom. To be free is also to be responsible in all things.

Luvdeveca B. Angeles on 06/26/2012 at 2:25am (UTC)
“Lemon-orange, lemon-juice…tell me the name of your sweetheart!”
But the SAHS students didn’t use this game to choose their valentine Prince and Princess but instead, through cash voting and thru the internet and the social network Facebook. Crowned Valentine Prince and Valentine Princess are the freshmen heartthrobs Bobby C. Delfin and Trisha Antonio who are also both from Barangay Lagan, Sabangan.
The said event was organized by the SSS in the month of February as one of their ways to raise fund for the Organization. With one peso per vote, an amount of 3,577.00 was gathered by the first year class, 1,701.00 by the second years, 397.00 by the third year class, and 2,696.00 by the fourth years totaling to 8,544.00.
“The amount is originally proposed to be used for the repair of the bleachers because of the water leaking during rainy days but the SSS officers are also considering other more important to put the proceeds,” explained SSS President Louie Nor P. Calag.
Cherry Ann B. Puyongan and Arcadio Jude Gasmena of the senior class, Novelyn Tumayab and Jones Guy Pingawan of the sophomore class, and Rhalyn B. Cacap and Rocky Samidan of the junior class won the Valentine Prince First, Second and Third Runner Ups, respectively.
For the minor awards, Mr. and Ms. Photogenic was given to Rhalyn B. Cacap and Jones Guy Pingawan; and seniors Puyongan and Gasmena were both given the Mr. and Ms. Internet Heartthrobs and Valentine Couples 2012.
